Phase 2: Long Term Recovery
Long Term Recovery, or LTR as it is commonly called, is Discovery Place’s second phase of our 12 step immersion program.
After the initial 30 day rehab on our main campus, our guests will transition to our facility located 15 minutes away in Dickson, TN. There, they will have an opportunity to apply what they’ve learned at Discovery Place in a safe, supervised environment where the goal is to have successful long term sobriety. The guests will have more accountability with house chores, cooking, cleaning, and other light responsibilities as a group.
What to Expect: A Holistic Approach to a New Way of Life
At LTR guests will start to work with a 12-Step sponsor and continue the journey through the steps of AA. We offer a safe environment to open up and start to work on what the issues are beyond the physical addiction to drugs and alcohol. The guests will have a guide, as they did on main campus, to help walk them through their stay at LTR. Family will be kept up to date via weekly phone calls from Discovery Place guides.
We strive to offer a fun and structured weekly schedule for the guys. Having fun in recovery is a must, and there are several weekly outings for the men in LTR. We provide all food and transportation while at LTR. We provide a daily trip to the gym in the community. There are several volunteer opportunities for the guests as well. This is part of a holistic approach to a new way of life which includes spiritual, emotional, social, and physical maintenance.

FAQs
Understanding Phase 2
Answers to common questions about Phase 2 in the 12 Step immersion program and how it supports lasting addiction recovery.
What is Phase 2 of the Discovery Place program?
Phase 2, also called Long-Term Recovery (LTR), is the second phase of our residential addiction treatment program in Tennessee. It allows men to continue recovery work in a structured, supervised environment focused on long-term sobriety.
How is Phase 2 different from the first 30 days of addiction treatment?
While Phase 1 focuses on stabilization and early recovery, Phase 2 helps men apply recovery to daily living. This includes increased responsibility, deeper 12-Step work, and learning how to live sober in real-world situations.
Is Phase 2 still a residential treatment program?
Yes. Phase 2 is a residential addiction treatment program located at our Dickson, Tennessee campus. Guests live on-site with staff support while continuing structured recovery work.
What 12 Step work happens during Phase 2?
In Phase 2, guests work through Steps 6–9 of the 12-Step program. This includes addressing character defects, practicing humility, making amends, and learning how to live with honesty and integrity.
Why is long-term addiction treatment important?
Addiction doesn’t end after 30 days. Many underlying patterns, emotional challenges, and behaviors surface after early sobriety. Long-term treatment provides the time, structure, and support needed to address these issues and reduce the risk of relapse.
What does a typical week look like in Phase 2?
Weeks include structured recovery work, 12-Step meetings, volunteer opportunities, physical activity, group responsibilities, and scheduled outings. The goal is to balance recovery, responsibility, and enjoyment of sober life.
What responsibilities do guests have during long-term recovery?
Guests take on shared responsibilities such as cooking, cleaning, and house chores. These responsibilities help build accountability, routine, and a sense of contribution—key elements of long-term recovery.
