Serving Northern Alabama Men for Nearly 30 Years
Discovery Place was built on a simple truth: real, lasting sobriety is found through community, accountability, and spiritual growth. For families in the Huntsville area, we offer a way out of the cycle that doesn't feel like a hospital or a clinical facility.
For over 25 years, men from Madison, Athens, and Harvest have made the short trip to our 18-acre retreat. By putting a little space between yourself and the "Rocket City," you can step away from the things that keep you stuck and focus entirely on the 12-Step work required to change your life.
Why Men from Alabama Choose Discovery Place
✓ A Brotherhood of Peers: Our retreat is staffed entirely by men in recovery. We don’t just point the way; we walk the path with you.
✓ Space to Focus: Being less than two hours away is close enough for family to stay involved, but far enough to break the cycle of “people, places, and things” at home.
✓ Real Accountability: We emphasize the principles of the 12 Steps in a setting that values honesty and hard work over clinical labels.
✓ Affordable Stewardship: As a nonprofit, our focus is on recovery results rather than insurance billing or corporate margins.
A Peaceful Setting Close to the Alabama Line
Discovery Place offers the breathing room that many men in early recovery desperately need with our Tennessee campus serving as a sanctuary where you can trade the noise of the city for 18 acres of woods, fishing ponds, and quiet spaces for reflection.
Real Stories. Real Recovery.
In a place where everyone is expected to have it all together, admitting you’ve lost control can be the hardest step a man takes. Whether you’re coming from a job in Huntsville or a home in Madison, most men arrive here with a lot of questions and a heavy burden.
I was in and out of treatment for years. I found out how to love myself and the world around me again. This place and the people here saved my life when nothing else could. I was given the tools and the knowledge of how to use them here. I've been sober over 2 years now! Thank you Discovery Place!!!
I am so grateful to Discovery Place for helping my son. He went there thinking he would stay for 30 days to get sober and has now stayed for 13 months and counting. He speaks so highly of DP and now lives in their sober living house while working at DP. His transformation has been miraculous thanks to the program and the fine men who work there.
They didn’t just help me stop using—they built the foundation that keeps my recovery strong long after leaving. Surrounded by compassionate people, I felt truly supported through the tightrope walk that is early sobriety.
Discovery Place changed my life. It gave me not only the tools but also the hope to live one day at a time. The staff and community helped me see life from a new perspective and reminded me that I’m never alone on this journey. I’ll always be grateful for the support, love, and guidance I found there.
A Brotherhood of Recovery Serving Northern Alabama
We don't just point the way; we walk it with you. Every member of the Discovery Place team is a man in active recovery, providing a level of peer-led guidance that clinical offices in Huntsville simply can’t replicate. We know the fear and exhaustion that comes with seeking help. Because many of us were once guests here ourselves, we offer men a brand of support built on radical honesty and mutual respect.

A Clear Path to Long-Term Recovery
Discovery Place offers a phased recovery journey designed to meet men where they are and support them as they grow, building a foundation for sobriety that lasts well beyond their time on campus.
30-Day Rehab
Our initial 30-day residential treatment program provides the space and separation needed to step away from drugs and alcohol and begin recovery in a quiet, countryside setting focused on healing, reflection, and renewal.
Long-Term Addiction Recovery
Our long-term recovery residential treatment program helps men apply what they’ve learned in a structured, supervised environment that builds accountability, responsibility, and lasting recovery habits.
Discover Living Program
This transitional phase supports men as they return to everyday life, continuing 12-Step work, strengthening independence, and learning how to live recovery with purpose, structure, and responsibility.
Lifelong Aftercare & Alumni Support
Recovery doesn’t end at discharge. We stay connected through regular check-ins during the first year and ongoing alumni relationships, because long-term sobriety is built through continued connection, accountability, and community.
