UPDATE: Remote Recovery Meetings – A Meeting Alternative In Quarantine

March 26th Update: Most Recent & Complete Nashville Zoom Meeting Schedule

In recovery, community is paramount. Through wars, natural disasters and pandemics, the communal transmission of our principles has and will continue to pass physical and emotional sobriety from one alcoholic/ addict to another. We will accept today’s life, on life’s terms. We will contribute to the stemming of viral spread by honoring those suggestions made by the CDC and A.A., and we will also honor the practice of our program.

Recovery Meetings have moved from physical spaces to the digital ether, but the content, experience, strength, hope, remain the same. If you have a laptop or smartphone, video meetings are available through the Zoom app. If your phone flips, no problem, there are dial-in recovery meetings. And for those who want meetings emailed in text form to their inbox, Lamplighters has a solution.

As always, if you or someone else needs help, or simply if there is the need for an alcoholic to speak to another alcoholic, we’re available any hour: 1-800-725-0922.

What Is Zoom?
Zoom is an app for audio and video meetings between individuals or groups. You can create a Zoom account on your laptop, here, or you can download the app from your devices app store. There are paid accounts for businesses, but to attend a meeting you need only set up a FREE account. If you are using a computer, Zoom functions best in the Chrome Browser.

How Do I Join A Remote Recovery Meeting?
Every meeting is identified by a unique, numerical ID. Once you have logged into your account, you can find your meeting by searching for the ID belonging to that meeting. For further clarification, see here.

No Smartphone Or Computer?
Call-in meetings are available, and these are as simple as they sound. Dial the number listed for your desired meeting, and you will be able to listen to a Zoom meeting.

How Does The Meeting Work?
In many ways, the meetings remain the same. There will be a chair, who is likely the meeting host, as well as someone assigned to read How It Works, The Promises, or any other readings specific to that meeting.

Everyone in the meeting will be seated or standing before whichever device they are using to participate. On your device screen you will see all of participants, as well as a thumbnail feed of yourself. When someone begins to share, their video feed will automatically become full-screen for you. For additional instructions regarding in meeting options, see here.

What Is Lamplighters?
Lamplighters is a quickly growing, International group of Alcoholics, which has been around since 1991. The group relies upon email for contribution and distribution. A central server is used to receive text-based shares and e-mail them out. Just as in a typical in-person meeting, every participant in the group can receive, or “hear”, every speaker’s share. For information and to join, go here.
